Installing Threaded Composite Body Solenoid Valves
Solenoid valves with Nylon 6, PVC, or other engineered plastic body materials are light weight, chemically resistant and can be affordable. They are often used for drinking water or aggressive line fluids. Here are some tips to consider when installing them:
1 – use composite pipe fittings to avoid thread damage
2 — tighten fittings to hand tight plus ¼ turn (by hand or with a strap wrench)
3 – choose a pipe sealant compatible with PPO plastic compounds and use it sparingly; avoid Teflon tape
4 — use mounting brackets to prevent stress-induced valve failure caused by the weight of the valve and associated piping.
Installing True Union Solenoid Valves
1 — place the outer plastic fittings on the pipe
2 — apply pipe sealant to the pipe thread
3 — install the stainless-steel NPT end connectors to the pipe and tighten until they are leak-tight
4 — place the O-rings fully in the recesses on the ends of the valve body
5 — position the valve and attach outer plastic fittings; sealant is not needed.
6 — hand tighten the plastic fittings until secure, no wrench necessary
